Brief Summary

Under limited supervision, the Plant Manager manages and directs the production, maintenance, and production administration functions of the plant. This position will ensure that operations are conducted within the guidelines established by Good Manufacturing Practices and to produce products which meet or exceed customer and company quality expectations in a safe environment, To also ensure cost effectiveness and volume control targets are maintained at or better than budgeted or standard levels. The plant's effort in the area of continuous improvement including but not limited to food safety, the controlling of reduction of direct and variable products costs and overhead m and the development if the operations management team. 

Job Responsibilities

Directs, supports and is responsible for the Production, Maintenance and Production Administration functions of the plant to ensure service to customers at 100% target.


Directs the activities of the Product or Production Manager to assure the appropriate operation of the various production lines in a manner that promotes a safe working environment, minimizes downtime, promotes employee involvement, respects food safety programs and reduces cost.


Directs the activities of the Maintenance Manager to assure the appropriate maintenance of the plant equipment that minimizes downtime through pro-active practices such as predictive and preventative measures rather than reactive maintenance.
 

Works closely with the QA Manager in developing and implementing plans and policies to ensure that the plant operates in accordance with FDA guidelines and corporate established Good Manufacturing Practices.

Prepares Product Cost Standards in a timely and accurate manner. During the Operational Year, works closely with finance and the Regional Operations VP in maintaining and improving standards.
 

Assures the timely implementation of plant-related cost savings and productivity improvements.

Collaborates with Human Resources to forecast long-range plant employee resource requirements and oversee employee resource planning for the plant with attention to labor cost containment.

In unionized facilities, participates in labor contract negotiations with plant bargaining unit and assists in the ongoing resolution of various labor-relations issues.
 

Works closely with Maintenance, Administration, Shipping and Warehousing, Quality Assurance, Human Resources and Production areas to develop realistic and manageable functional area cost center budgets and assure expense control within budgeted guidelines. When overspent situations occur, develops the appropriate steps to get back to budget in the appropriate categories.

Ensures that employees have the responsibility, authority, and funding necessary to maintain a safe workplace, utilize and maintain safe equipment, have adequate safety supplies, have adequate PPE, administer training, and implement programs, practices, and safety policies as appropriate.

 

Ensures that all aspects of the Safety Program are functioning adequately i.e. Training, Rules and Policy Conformance, Inspections and Hazard elimination, Accident Investigations and follow up, and Safety Committee/Employee Communication. The Plant Manager must participate actively in the Committee and ensure response to employees’ Safety-related suggestions.

 

To protect the brands, ensure full compliance to regulatory requirements and to the Mission Foods Food System requirements, product quality requirements and to the Mission Foods Quality System.

 

Communicates functional area issues and/or opportunities in an effective and timely manner to the plant Staff and the Regional Operations VP. 

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or Industrial Engineering

Ability to lead and motivate others.
Experience with collective bargaining agreements and wage analysis
Requires Experience operating withing regulatory requirements such as: FDA, OSHA, EPA, USDA, EEO
Requires experience in both union and non- union environments; working closely with HR
Work may require the ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English and Spanish.
Requires experience in production of short shelf-life product in a DSD operation
