This position is responsible for the daily operations of the Flour or Corn Department.  He/She serves as a liaison between management and line employees.  Makes sure that every activity is performed within internal and external parameters.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be familiar with the quality system requirements of the plant.
  • Ensure that all activities of the process are carried out within the specifications.
  • Responsible to verify and control that Flour/Corn production KPI’s  (Yield, Waste, Overweight, Efficiency, Labor, etc) are within or better than budget.
  • Serve as a liaison between management and line employees.
  • Ensure that all duties are performed following GMPs.
  • Programs vacations and days off to Supervisors.
  • Verify through Supervisors that production and payroll hour’s match.
  • Responsible to communicate the production schedules to the Supervisors/Leads. 
  • Report any discrepancy in the documentation (work instructions, charts, forms, etc.)
  • Responsible of the revision of the training needs and for the training for the Supervisors and employees in the different areas, and to keep records. (AIB, training, Safety, etc.)
  • Responsible for the safety training and to keep records of the issues covered.
  • Responsible for the monthly meeting, and to keep records of the issues covered.
  • Responsible for Department safety, ensuring that all employees are using their assigned safety equipment.
  • Resolve possible process problems
  • Make sure that all employees are following work instructions and company rules.
  • Perform safety and sanitation inspections, and keep records.
  • Resolve problems between employees and document any disciplinary actions.
  • Promote team work within his/her department and with other departments.
  • Set specific goals to improve the department.

 

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Management, Engineering, Business or related field required.

5 years of production experience in a manufacturing environment required.  Bakery or food/beverage manufacturing preferred. With a minimum of 3 years of experience in a supervisory/managerial capacity in a manufacturing environment required. Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered for the above.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Experience in manufacturing management roles with proven track record in leading manufacturing teams to improve continuously the efficiency of production methods and, ultimately, the quality of products.
  • Experience and exposure to regulatory inspections (AIB, OSHA, MILITARY, Health Dept., EPA, City & County Inspectors)
  • Experience with Quality Systems and Programs
  • Experience with manufacturing safety concepts, applications and committees.
  • Familiar with Good Manufacturing Practices, LEAN Manufacturing, 5's, World Class Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma.
  • Team management/leadership/development skills, including the ability to manage people in an organization matrix and get the best out of them.
  • Maturity, self-confidence and strong communication skills will be critical for this role.
  • A multicultural approach to operating in a diverse business environment.
  • Budget preparation and Cost analysis
  • SAP & Kronos knowledge preferred
  • Effectively communicate in Spanish and English both verbal and written (desirable)
  • Be able to walk long distances and to be on his/her feet for long periods of time
  • Able to work in dusty, noisy, hot, cold and small areas.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to manage a 3 shift operation required

Brief Summary

To develop and implement production standards that will globally improve the efficiency of operations in the press, corn and chip departments through effective implementation of service to sales, cost reduction, inventory, safety, GMP and Quality program procedures.  Directly manages the daily actions of the Corn, Chip, and Press departments.

  • Coordinate efforts with subordinates to reach or exceed established standards of production; such as efficiency, pounds per man-hour, net yield, waste index, overweight and moisture percentages of the finished product, and machine downtime
  • Obtain the minimum percentage of finished product out of specification to reach the objective of not exceeding the fixed standard of waste and/or reprocessing.
  • Provide to sales product that is of the highest quality.
  • Coordinate the different departments in their tasks (production, production control, and inventory control) to provide sales with the necessary products, in a timely manner, in the correct quantities and with the expected quality.
  • To develop and/or update operations procedures intended to create uniformity in the operation of equipment that serves as guides for training among operator personnel to reach the established standard of quality and quantity, such as reduction of downtime, imputable wastes and lack of knowledge of equipment.
  • Supervise and control the completion of established standards in reference to consumption, quality, yield, etc. of the necessary materials and packaging materials used in the manufacturing of our finished product.
  • Monitor and coordinate the existence of necessary material and packaging material required to manufacture the scheduled products.                                    
  • Responsible for providing training to personnel in identified areas, and to maintain a record of that training. (Example: Safety, Sanitation, Operations Practices, ISO 9000 and Work instructions.)
  • Responsible for conducting monthly departmental meetings, and maintain their documentation.
  • Conduct weekly Safety and Sanitation inspections, and maintain their documentation.
  • Resolve conflict within your group, issue disciplinary actions and special recognition as they arise, and maintain their documentation.
  • Verify that the operation procedures conform to ISO 9002 requirements.
