Staff Accountant I

Under limited supervision, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day general ledger accounting, management reporting, and analysis for assigned functional areas.  This position is onsite with flexibility to work weekends as need it. 

 

  • Ensures an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close.
  • Prepares an analysis of management reporting for financial results for assigned functional areas.  Provides monthly reports and accompanying schedules analyzing variances in actual results to budget, prior periods, and others as required by management.
  • Performs balance sheet account reconciliations, account analysis, accrual calculations, and other related accounting documents/schedules.
  • Prepares and posts journal entries related to assigned functional areas.
  • Performs cash management functions including monitoring cash transactions and investigating any unusual items.  Prepares bank reconciliations and resolves unreconciled items.
  • Maintains cost accounting system including setting up new products, making estimates for new and proposed product costs, analyzing actual manufacturing costs to standard costs, and other reports and analyses as required by management.
  • Ensures the company's financial information is maintained in compliance with company policies and directives, government regulations, and applicable accounting standards.
  • Performs customer sales allowance functions.
  • Prepare sales and use tax returns on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in accounting and 1-3 years of accounting experience required. * Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered for the above.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  •    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with all levels throughout the organization.
  •    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  •    Must have excellent work habits including a willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done in a deadline-driven environment.
  •    Expected to work with minimal guidance and take ownership of his/her work product.
  •    Basic understanding of internal controls, accounting standards, and guidelines.
  •    Requires proficiency with computer software including Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel.
  •    SAP experience a plus.
  •    Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
