Materials Planner

Responsible for evaluating and forecasting manufacturing plant needs, ordering materials from established vendors, and coordinating their delivery in a timely fashion. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

 

  •             Update forecasting tools as needed to determine material requirements taking into consideration Sales projections, optimum order quantities, lead times, and plant warehouse capacities.
  • Work with the New Product team to coordinate the ordering of needed materials for new and seasonal items to meet targeted deadlines.
  • Prepare Purchase Orders in SAP at contract pricing and within established lead-times.
  • Reconcile vendor confirmations and update forecasting tools and SAP to ensure accurate pricing, quantities and delivery dates.
  • Interact with Accounts Payable to resolve invoice discrepancies, provide direction to close out standing invoices to process for payment.
  • Facilitate the return of non-conforming goods in a timely manner by working closely with the vendors, quality assurance, and the manufacturing plants.
  • Track open Purchase Orders (or back orders) and research with plants and/or vendors to reach final resolution.
  • Interact with plant personnel when material stock outs occur and resolve in a timely, economical manner. This may require expediting material and obtaining freight quotes.
  • Cross train with other Material Planners to provide support and back up as needed based either on emergencies and or vacation needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Associate degree and 2 to 3 years experience in procurement or related field required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. *Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered for the above.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

 

  • Ability to communicate effectively, cross-functionally, both in writing and orally
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook, SAP experience a plus.
  • Ability to use independent judgment to forecast and order material needs.
  • Ability to work effectively with team and all employee levels in the organization.
  • Bilingual skills; Spanish preferred.
