The Maintenance Lead performs advanced, hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical and electromechanical systems used in manufacturing operations. The role focuses primarily on diagnosing equipment issues, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring safe, efficient operation of production machinery. In addition to these technical duties, approximately 10–15% of time is dedicated to assisting the Maintenance Supervisor or Manager with training, scheduling, and oversight of maintenance personnel. Duties and responsibilities include the following:

 

  • Read and interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints, schematics, and diagrams to support system installation, diagnostics, and repair.
  • Apply principles of mechanical engineering to inspect, diagnose, and repair industrial machinery, including conveyors, pumps, compressors, blowers, and gearboxes.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and performance testing to ensure compliance with reliability, safety, and quality standards (including AIB and P. principles).
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and power transmission systems, and oversee alignment, balancing, and lubrication of rotating equipment.
  • Install, calibrate, and maintain AC/DC motors, variable-frequency drives, sensors, and control systems in accordance with engineering specifications and electrical codes.
  • Use precision tools and test instruments (e.g., voltmeters, ammeters, calipers, micrometers) to diagnose performance issues and verify system integrity.
  • Recommend mechanical design or process improvements to enhance equipment efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Maintain technical records, inspection reports, and spare-parts inventory; ensure compliance with company safety and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Train maintenance personnel in preventive and corrective maintenance procedures for mechanical and electromechanical systems.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field plus two years of experience in the job offered or in an industrial equipment maintenance role within a manufacturing environment. Requires two years of experience in the following:

 

  • Performing preventive and corrective maintenance on industrial production lines;
  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems;
  • Installing, calibrating, and maintaining motors, actuators, PLCs, and variable-frequency drives;
  • Reading blueprints and troubleshooting electromechanical and material-handling systems;
  • Supervising or coordinating maintenance personnel and work assignments.
